Brief History
Hansa was founded by Joseph Farrugia, who started out as a bar waiter and later progressed to bar management whilst gaining invaluable experience in Malta's leading hotels for nearly twenty years. Joseph studied bartendering in Stresa, Italy and was the winner for the Bols Cocktail Competition in 1985. He represented Malta in Holland for the World Cocktail Championship, and in 1986 Joseph went on to win the Benedictine Liqueur Competition, prior to becoming a sales representative for Wines and Spirits for several years.
With this extensive experience, Joseph, with the support of his wife Miriam and family, was ready to launch his own business and open Hansa Stores in Bugibba.
As a result of hard-earned success the business flourished and has considerably expanded throughout the years. Today it continues to grow at a steady pace under the management of Joseph’s son Franco Farrugia, who has proudly followed in his father’s footsteps.
