Glenmorangie The Vindima 16YO

Glenmorangie has existed as a distillery since 1843 when William Matheson bought a licence to make whisky on the site of a brewery located near the Tarlogie Springs in Ross-shire in the highlands of Scotland. Matheson bought two second-hand gin stills to make his spirit, and the distillery is famous for having the tallest stills in Scotland. The water used in the production is drawn from Tarlogie Springs, which are located in the nearby Tarlogie hills. Over the years, Glenmorangie has become Scotland’s best selling Single Malt. That, more than anything else, should be held dear to the distillery’s metaphoric heart as an enormous success.

This whisky is inspired by the island of Madeira’s grape harvest festival, known as “Vindima”. When the island’s grapes are ripe, the community unites to handpick the fruit, destined for Madeira wine. Once their work is done, the streets erupt with joyous celebrations. Aged 16 years, The Vindima marries whisky aged in bourbon casks and whisky finished in Malmsey casks – the sweetest style of Madeira. The deep purple tones of its packaging are inspired by the tones of ripened grapes.

Sunburst orange color. Rich and honeyed on the nose with peaches, orange, vanilla, and delicate florals, this whisky unfolds into a lush palate of candied orange peel, sultanas, and milk-chocolate truffles layered with warming spices, hazelnut, and gentle woodsmoke, culminating in a long, graceful finish touched by sweet, vinous Madeira notes.
