Champagne Deutz is a notable Champagne house of the Aÿ region. It was founded in 1838 by wine merchants William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann. Deutz is well-known for its balanced, elegant wines made from the classic Champagne blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Nearly 80 percent of grapes is sourced from Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites. In 1983, after generations of ownership by the Deutz and Geldermann families, the company was sold to the Rouzaud family, the owners of Louis Roederer.
The Meurtet cuvée from Maison Deutz is a Tribute to William Deutz cuvée inaugurated in 2010, resulting from an exclusive vinification of the Meurtet plot: a plot of Pinot Noir located in Aÿ, facing east which gives finesse and precision.
The wine reveals aromas of white (apricot) and yellow (bigarreau) fruits, followed by notes of red fruits such as cherry. Aromas of dried figs, brioche and licorice are also present, as well as notes of blood orange. The palate is marked by a tension characteristic of the minerality of the limestone terroir. The structure is tight, and the attack is supple, with a liveliness that persists until the end.
