Pietracupa was founded in 1993. The 3 hectares of vineyards were chosen with the express purpose of showcasing Montefredane to the wine world. Located in the province of Avellino on elevated, mountainous terrain. The vineyards of Pietracupa reach heights of up to 800 meters. The soils are loamy and calcareous. Thanks to good south-eastern locations, the vines benefit from a microclimate with sufficiently high temperature fluctuations, which allows the grapes to ripen very well. Winery quickly gained a reputation within and beyond Italy for some of the best Greco and Fiano wines. The wines are ready for consumption after bottling but have excellent age-ability, becoming more beautiful as they gain complexity in the bottle.

Produced from 100% Aglianico grapes, considered among the most complete varieties in Italy, Taurasi is a great red wine for aging. Pietracupa has all the characteristics of the variety, from red fruity notes to spices and black pepper, from solid tannin to a fine structure; but in terms of innate elegance and refinement it beats all others – a “unique item”. The other side of this winery, undoubtedly famous for its great whites but also able to evoke emotions with its reds.

The complex nose combines a wealth of fresh dark fruits, a strong mineral personality with flecks of iron and a gamey, meaty tone. Meanwhile, the palate initially expresses fleshy, red stewed fruits which transform to earthy, animal notes and finally culminates in a long, white-peppery finish. The body is light but possesses a slight creaminess, the tannins are fine and the acidity bright.
