Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a well-regarded wine estate in the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux's Haut-Médoc wine region. The estate and its eponymous grand vin was rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. It is often described as the quintessential Saint-Julien – deeply colored and powerfully ripe, yet balanced and harmonious. The grand vin usually needs 10 years of aging and can last for decades.
Deep, dark purple-red color with a purple rim. The aromas are of plush red-fruits and coffee, wrapped around by attractive toastiness, cedar touches and chocolatey aromas. The palate shows blackcurrant fruit with cocoa and a slight seam of graphite running through it. The mid-palate is elegant structured with lovely fine tannins. There is a concentrated core of licorice fruit. Alcohol is balanced, acidity is very fresh and the finish is long.
