Cuvée Nykteri

Estate Argyros is a wine producer located on the island of Santorini in Greece. The vineyards are planted on volcanic soils and cover 26 hectares (65 acres) of land on the island. Native grape varieties are planted there, making wines in a range of styles, from dry whites to sweet vinsanto. The estate was originally founded in 1903 by Georgios Argyros, who started making local wines using traditional Santorinian methods. Argyros' vineyards are situated at altitudes ranging from 35-150m (115-500ft) above sea level, on the classic, dark volcanic soils of the island. The vines are cultivated in the traditional basket style which shelters the grapes from Santorini's strong winds.

Estate Argyros’ construal of an old, distinctive Santorinian style. Cuvée Nykteri is made from a very strict selection of very old Assyrtiko vineyards, at least 150 year old. Harvested at deep ripeness, usually twenty days after the main picking date. Fermented, partially uninoculated, in French oak barriques, at ambient temperatures and aged for twelve months in French oak barriques on fine lees and then approximately twelve additional months in stainless steel, again on fine lees. A wine of imposing proportions, of power but showing no hint of roughness. It needs several years in bottle to grow out of its youth and will unfurl for more than fifteen years.

It has medium lemon color and an intoxicating nose that unfolds slowly. Aromas of lemon, vanilla, toast, orange, flint, dough, bergamot, grapefruit, peach, and smoke. In the mouth, it has a full-body, refreshing acidity, and oily texture. Juicy lemon, citron, peach, orange, honey, vanilla, toast, and savory notes fill-up the mouth in every sip.
