Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno is an Italian wine producer, located just south of the Barolo comune in the Langhe area of Piedmont. Elvio Cogno was formed in 1990 when the Cogno family purchased the current winery and house, however the first Barolo that the Cogno family bottled was the great vintage of 1961. Just three years later in 1964, far ahead of his times, Elvio Cogno decided to write the name of the vineyard on the label: Brunate. It was a sign of pride and knowledge of the uniqueness of his wines and of the terroir that helped to create them. The family had been growing grapes and producing wine for many generations. In 2012, the company won a UNESCO award for the restoration work of their farmhouse in the sympathetic installation of new facilities.

Vigna Elena is an uncompromising Barolo, a wine for Barolo purists. In its history it has not undergone changes to satisfy the market or to follow taste trends. The Cogno family follows and respects with meticulous attention all the experience handed down from the grandparents to create a Barolo of majestic honesty: the choice of the clone of Nebbiolo Rosé exceptionally used in purity, the training system, the lower yields due to the mention " Vigna”, the indigenous yeasts, the maturation strictly in large barrels, contribute together with the particular microclimate to give life to the Barolo Ravera Riserva Vigna Elena, produced exclusively in the best vintages. All these devices give a wine of absolute elegance, worthy of its history, its tradition and its denomination.

The color is garnet red, full and bright. The nose shows clear, clean and complex aromas with notes of rose, very fine tobacco, mint, sweet spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon, hints of licorice. In the mouth it is enveloping, warm, full, revealing fresh spices and red berry fruit with pleasant tannins given by the stay for 36 months in large barrels. Pleasant return of fruit to the aftertaste, very fresh drink and very long complexity.
