Blandy’s Madeira was founded by John Blandy in 1811 and is well-known for producing quality Madeira, a fortified wine, from Portugal’s island of the same name, several hundred kilometers west off the northwest coast of Africa. The Blandy family is one of the original founding families of the Maderia wine trade and is the only family to still own and operate their original wine company on the island of Maderia.

Blandy’s Colheita Malmsey 1990 was aged in seasoned American oak casks in the traditional ‘Canteiro’ system, whereby the wine is gently heated by warm air in the lofts of the company’s south-facing lodge in Funchal. Over the years the casks are transferred from the top floor to the middle floor and eventually to the ground floor where it is cooler. The wine is regularly racked during the ageing process and is finally bottled when the desired balance of maturity is reached.

Amber colour with golden reflections. Characteristic bouquet of Madeira with dried fruits, honey, vanilla and dark chocolate. Sweet and full bodied, with an oaky aftertaste.

Blandy's Colheita is fined and does not require decanting. It has been bottled when ready for drinking and will keep for several months after opening. It is a superb accompaniment to dried fruit, butter biscuits, praline, milk chocolate and honey cake.
