Bodega Catena Zapata is one of the foremost wine estates in Mendoza, Argentina. Founded in 1902 and still in family hands. The estate is made up of six vineyards in the Luján de Cuyo, Tupungato and San Carlos sub-regions of Mendoza, at altitudes ranging from 3000 to 4750 feet (920 to 1450 meters) above sea level. The winery, with its striking Mayan-influenced pyramid shape, is located in Agrelo, in Luján de Cuyo.
At almost 5,000 feet elevation in the Andean foothills, the Adrianna vineyard's calcareous soils and cool climate are the promised land of Chardonnay. The fruit from the Adrianna vineyard has a purity of flavors and a minerality that is particular to this vineyard and can not be found anywhere else in Mendoza. The nearby, gravel-covered Domingo Vineyard makes up 20% of the blend. Fermented in 500L French oak barrels with natural yeasts at low temperatures. Wild yeasts. Aged for 14 months in French oak.
This Chardonnay combines the unique expressions of three high altitude vineyard sites namely the La Piramide, the Domingo, the Adrianna. The wine shows an intense greenish yellow color. The aromas show ripe pineapple and banana fruit flavors with notes of white stone fruits and hints of sweet spices. The mouthfeel is full yet clean, with fresh, crisp acidity.
