The château took its name from the Ballande family (the Lords of Baret) who purchased the property in 1867. Today, the estate's wine portfolio features a single red and a single white Bordeaux blend. In 2016 a new management was installed to magnify this vintage with a responsible organic philosophy. The château is situated among 26 hectares (64 acres) of vineyard, the majority of which is planted to Bordeaux's three key red grape varieties – Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc which are planted on the parts of the vineyard with largely gravel-sand and gravel-clay soils.
Hugely rich, the wine has a density that detracts from the natural elegance of this appellation. Its tannins and extracted fruit are firm although with the potential of juicy black-currant acidity as the wine progresses.
