Château Gruaud Larose is a wine estate in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Médoc, ranked as a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The vineyard of Gruaud Larose is unique as they have one of the largest vineyards in all of Bordeaux with most of its vines in one single block. Chateau Gruaud Larose has a terroir that is mostly gravel, with quartz, clay, and sand-based soil on the surface. Under the topsoil, you find more sand and limestone. The vines average 46 years of age. Although they have old Cabernet Sauvignon vines, with their oldest vines being over 85 years of age.
Round, plush, soft and full-bodied, the wine offers good richness, layers of ripe, currants, cherries and plums. There is depth and complexity with a touch of stone in the elegant, luxurious finish. This is the best vintage for Gruaud Larose in years.
