Château La Gaffelière is a Bordeaux wine estate in the appellation of Saint-Émilion. It was ranked as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B in 1955 Classification, and is one of the oldest family-owned vineyards in the region. Like many of its neighbors, Château La Gaffelière's wine is Merlot-dominant, with a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. In all, the property boasts 22 hectares (54 acres) of vineyard, of which roughly 70 percent is planted to Merlot and 30 percent to Cabernet Franc. Château La Gaffelière should not be confused with the adjacent but separately-owned Château Canon La Gaffelière, though both were once part of a larger estate.
Born in 1985, Clos La Gaffelière has his own vat room and cellars. Ageing is done, in large part, in one and two years old barrels. The blend is usually a large majority of Merlot ( up to 90%) and the rest of Cabernet Franc. An authentic, pleasure-giving and easy drinking wine.
The second wine of La Gaffeliere, the 2021 Clos La Gaffeliere has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and bags of character all its own, featuring notes of redcurrant jelly, raspberry pie, Black Forest cake and underbrush with wafts of cracked black pepper. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers plenty of juicy red and black fruits with lovely herbal sparks and an approachable texture of rounded tannins, finishing with enticing freshness.
