Château Lanessan is a wine estate in Cussac-Fort-Médoc, in the Haut-Médoc appellation. The estate has documentation dating back to the early 14th Century, but the château as it stands now was built in 1878. As a wine producer it was highly regarded early in its history. The Lanessan vineyard has belonged to a succession of eight generations of the Bouteiller family and is one of the oldest estates in Bordeaux. This estate covers more than 350 hectares, including 85 hectares of vines.
Classic pencil lead, peppercorn, dried cherry, cassis, some red plum, with a bit of gentle earth. The tannins are present but more the the dusty style. The palate opens with earth, tea leaf and pencil lead then resolves to anise and a bit of dried cherry and currants.
