Château le Gay is a leading Bordeaux wine estate in Pomerol, producing Merlot-based wines. Its reputation has risen steadily in the new millennium, and has garnered high ratings from critics. There are 10.5 hectares (26 acres) of vines in one holding, planted on clay and gravel soils in the north of the Pomerol plateau. Some 90 percent of plantings are Merlot, with the remainder Cabernet Franc. Wine is made from vines that are at least 40 years old.
Full-bodied, concentrated and abundant in depth, this wine balances its power, grace, elegance with ribbons of ripe, dark, red pit fruits from start to finish. The fruit comes in gradations, building and expanding with plummy finish. Ageing will allow the wine to soften, flesh out and encourage the truffles, flowers and chocolate to unfold.
