Clos L’Eglise

Clos l'Église is an historical Bordeaux estate located in Pomerol. The wine estate is recorded in the 19th Century, though the farmhouse on the property dates back to the 18th. In its early years, it formed part of a larger estate with what is now Château Gombaude Guillot. At 14 hectares (35 acres), Clos l'Église was one of the larger vineyards in Pomerol. Contested rights of succession eventually led to its division into two estates. The modern Clos l'Église retained 6ha (15 acres) and was run by the Rouchet family. The vineyard is planted largely to Merlot with some Cabernet Franc.

Rich, lush, full-bodied, and deep, the wine is filled to the brim with layers of perfectly ripe, sweet, fleshy, dark red pit fruits, licorice, chocolate, espresso, and truffles. Unctuous, as well as energetic, with ample lift on the palate and a hint of salt that slides in at the end of the lengthy finish, this is simply fabulous.
