Château Léoville Poyferré is a wine estate in the Saint-Julien appellation of Haut-Médoc wine region, just north of Bordeaux town. It was rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, and was traditionally the softest of the three Léovilles. However, in the last few decades, the Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wine has gained weight and density.
The style of Leoville Poyferre is a Bordeaux wine that offers lush ripe fruit, a powerful, plush style. It has been one of the most consistent producers of high-quality Bordeaux since 2000.
The 2010 vintage is a deep garnet color with ruby-vermeil highlights, showing perfect evolution. Rich and complex on the nose, it is bursting with aromas of black fruit, plum, cassis, cedar, and spices. On the palate, this vintage is imposing with fine-grained tannins. Notes of plum, spices and cedar carry through to the lingering finish. A touch of liquorice adds freshness to this powerful, beautifully balanced wine. A great Saint-Julien of exquisite precision.
