The estate was founded by Georges Bonnigal (Domaine de l'Prévoté) in 1927. Located in Limeray, on the hillside of the Loire's north bank, near Ambois, the estate has been managed by Jean-Baptiste Bonnigal, representing the fourth generation, in partnership with his longtime friend Stéphane Bodet, since 2015. Their aim is to work closely with nature, crafting wines that accurately reflect the vintage with precision, clarity, and purity.
To achieve this, significant work is carried out in the vineyards. The soil is aerated every two weeks, encouraging microbial life and promoting the growth of various plants. They practice parcel-by-parcel management, manual leaf removal, bud thinning, cover cropping, and ecosystem management. The harvest is done entirely by hand. But also at the winery, an investment has been made in the vat room, sorting table, meticulous work, precision everywhere.
Clocher is a single-vineyard cuvée from a south-facing clay-limestone terroir, near the cliff.
This Chenin Blanc opens with a fresh, lemon-driven nose layered with bright citrus, subtle toast and flinty mineral tones, lifted by hints of tropical fruit like passion fruit and mango. Pale yellow in the glass, it reveals both purity and depth, combining the vibrancy of crushed limestone with enticing exotic aromas. The palate is equally expressive, marrying gourmet richness with a finely judged balance of sugar and acidity, while a salty, mouthwatering edge amplifies its tension and minerality. Remarkably long, aromatic and full of vitality, it promises excellent ageing potential and delivers a finish that is both invigorating and irresistibly fresh.
