Jacquesson, founded in 1798 in Dizy, claims to be the oldest independent Champagne house. Its fame grew with a rumored favor from Napoleon. After a decline following Adolphe Jacquesson’s death, Jean Chiquet bought it in 1974, moving it to the family estate in 1978. Since 1988, Jean-Hervé and Laurent Chiquet have restored its prestige; in 2005 it was rated the third-best Champagne house after Bollinger and Krug. Base wines are vinified in large old oak casks, with smaller 500-liter casks used for aging or reserves.
In recognition of the subtle differences between each annual non-vintage creation, Champagne Jacquesson number their non-vintage cuvée every year. Jacquesson Cuvée 745 is based on the 2017 harvest with grapes originating from Ay, Dizy, Hautvillers, Avize and Oiry. The champagne was vinified on the lees in oak barrels with no filtration or fining. 205,164 bottles, 8,082 magnums and 250 jeroboams were produced.
On the nose bright citrus fruits come through with rich yeasty notes. The palate displays grapefruit, green apples, lemon and brioche. The finish is balanced with refreshing acidity and a creamy texture.
