Bodegas Toro Albalá is one of Spain’s historic and most respected family-owned wineries, founded in 1922 in the heart of the Montilla-Moriles region of Andalusia with roots dating back to an 1844 family estate. It has played a leading role in elevating the region’s wines by specialising in the Pedro Ximénez grape. Under winemaker Antonio Sánchez, Toro Albalá ages its wines in a former power station with vast underground cellars, holding some of Spain’s oldest and most prized stocks, including the internationally acclaimed 100-point Don P.X. Selección 1946.

Don PX Selección is a rare, vintage-dated Pedro Ximénez from Montilla-Moriles, made from sun-dried grapes and aged oxidatively for decades in old oak casks before late bottling. “Selección” denotes a special cask selection of exceptional concentration and balance, chosen for extended maturation and released only when the wine has reached profound complexity. Its a single-harvest wine that is not solera blend but long barrel-aged time capsule.

This near-century-old Pedro Ximénez is a monumental expression of Montilla-Moriles, with a deep ebony color and velvety, syrupy texture. The nose reveals extraordinary complexity: layers of dried figs, black raisins, bitter chocolate, espresso, tobacco, antique cedar, and subtle molasses. On the palate, it is ultra-concentrated yet balanced by natural acidity, unfolding waves of caramelized figs, roasted nuts, and dark chocolate that evolve with remarkable depth. The finish is profoundly long, resonating with licorice, polished oak, and a timeless oxidative character that exemplifies the pinnacle of long-aged PX.
