Champagne Drappier is a Champagne house located in the commune of Urville in the Aube, the southernmost subregion of Champagne. The house, founded in 1808, is known for its Pinot Noir-dominant wines, and its minimal use of sulfur and dosage. Drappier's Urville-based cellars were constructed by Cistercian monks from Clairvaux Abbey and are among the oldest in Champagne, dating back to 1152.
At depths of 30 metres, the underwater pressure, temperature and light create the perfect conditions for wine to age. The bottles containing wine from Champagne make their unique journey to Brittany where they are immersed for one, two or three years. The Drappier Immersion Set, presented in a wooden box, contains two bottles of the same champagne, one has evolved in the depths of the sea and the other in the Drappier cellars in Urville. The set therefore presents an opportunity to enjoy a comparative tasting.
Drappier vineyard represents 100 hectares of exceptional terroir that combines the limestone richness of the soil and optimum amount of sunshine. Carte d'Or cuvée is a blend of 75% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay, and 10% Pinot Meunier. 5% was aged in wooden tun for a year. Carte d'or of Champagne House Drappier is almost a Blanc de Noirs. One can detect a good aromatic richness dominated by notes of stone fruit, such as white peach, enhanced by a spicy hint. The taste is powerful and complex for a vinous Champagne characterized by its quince jelly accent. It is the perfect expression of Drappier identity.
