Gavi di Gavi Black Label

La Mesma is a family-run winery in the heart of the Gavi DOCG in Piedmont, Italy, led by the Rosina sisters, who focus exclusively on expressing the purity of the Cortese grape. Black Label (Etichetta Nera) is a step up in intensity and complexity compared with their Yellow Label, crafted from older Cortese vines in the Monterotondo Cru within the Gavi DOCG zone. Its vinification includes careful hand harvesting, soft pressing, fermentation and extended ageing on lees for at least 1 year in temperature-controlled cement, all designed to accentuate purity, depth and terroir energy.

Black Label shows a pale straw color and an expressive, mineral-driven nose with aromas of citrus zest, green apple, white peach, wildflowers, and wet stone. On the palate it is dry and medium-bodied, marked by vibrant acidity, a pronounced saline-mineral core, and flavors of lemon, quince, and crisp orchard fruit, with subtle almond and herbal nuances. The finish is long, precise, and savory, highlighting the wine’s depth, structure, and clear expression of its Monterotondo terroir.
