Glenmorangie has existed as a distillery since 1843 when William Matheson bought a license to make whisky on the site of a brewery located near the Tarlogie Springs in Ross-shire in the highlands of Scotland. Matheson bought two second-hand gin stills to make his spirit, and the distillery is famous for having the tallest stills in Scotland. The water used in the production is drawn from Tarlogie Springs, which are located in the nearby Tarlogie hills. Over the years, Glenmorangie has become Scotland’s best selling Single Malt. That, more than anything else, should be held dear to the distillery’s metaphoric heart as an enormous success.
Inspired by the memories, feelings and flavors of his many visits to Tokyo and a desire to experiment with rare Japanese Mizunara oak casks for the first time, Dr Bill has created a limited edition expression characterized by enchanting opposites.
Collaborating with celebrated Japanese artist, Yamaguchi Akira, the whisky is brought to life in visual form.
The whisky fuses notes of pepper with bitter cherries and mouth-watering orange zest with incense and sweet oak – a unique and complex flavor profile resulting from the recipe of Mizunara oak, Bourbon and Sherry casks.
