Garofoli is one of the oldest family-run wineries in Italy, founded in 1871 in the Marche region by the Garofoli family, who still manage it today across multiple generations. Based in the heart of the Castelli di Jesi. Garofoli combines deep tradition with modern winemaking techniques, producing a wide range of wines from both Verdicchio and Montepulciano, and is widely regarded as a benchmark producer in the Marche for quality, consistency, and long-lived white wines.
Grosso Agontano is a premium red wine, produced from 100% Montepulciano grapes grown around Conero. The wine is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve varietal purity and structure, followed by extended maceration on the skins to extract color, tannin, and depth. It is then aged in a combination of French oak barriques and larger oak casks for around 12–18 months followed by additional 24 months in the bottle.
Rich and expressive profile, with aromas of ripe black cherry, plum, and blackberry layered with notes of sweet spice, tobacco, and a hint of cocoa from oak influence. On the palate, it is full-bodied with firm yet polished tannins, balanced acidity, and a structured core of dark fruit. Subtle hints of vanilla, licorice, and earthy undertones emerge as it opens, leading to a long, persistent finish marked by elegance and depth, with good aging potential.
