Jura distillery is a Scottish single malt whisky producer based on the island of Jura, just north of Islay, in the Inner Hebrides chain of western Scottish Islands. The distillery was founded in 1962 by local landowners Robin Fletcher and Tony Riley-Smith with the aim of producing lighter whiskies for blending by larger operators. The distillery is now owned by Whyte and Mackay. Unlike the high number of distilleries on its southern neighbor, Islay, the Isle of Jura distillery is the only whisky producer on the island and (also in contrast to the generally smoky, peaty whiskies of the former) produces a subtle, unpeated single malt in a variety of expressions.

This release from the Rare Vintage series was distilled in 1990 and initially aged in ex-bourbon casks, though before being bottled in 2020, it was treated to a finishing period in Amoroso sherry casks, imparting a hearty helping of rich red fruit sweetness and complexity to the fantastic single malt Scotch whisky.

Mango and melon with honey, raisins. Pleasant smoothness on the nose which will be transposed on the palate. Red fruits, raspberry and cherry compote, apples, enhanced with a touch of anise. The texture is greedy, fresh and slightly sticky. The tropical fruit notes literally explode with subsequent sips, hints of mango, cantaloupe and honeydew melon. Surprisingly long finish, while remaining super soft and subdued. Retro-olfaction of discreet spices coating the tropical and red fruits.
