Johnnie Walker Blenders Batch Bourbon Cask & Rye Finish

As the world’s most widely distributed blended Scotch whisky, selling over 130 million bottles a year, Johnnie Walker has a long and rich history. John Walker was a Scottish grocer based in Kilmarnock who, despite being tee-total himself, produced and sold a brand of whisky called Walker’s Kilmarnock Whisky.

Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Bourbon Cask & Rye Finish is a limited-edition release from 2017, appealing to fans of bourbon and rye more than traditional scotch enthusiasts. Originally released for travel retail this Blenders’ Batch Bourbon Cask & Rye Finish blends single malt and grain whiskies matured in first-fill Bourbon casks and finished for up to six months in ex-rye casks.

The whisky is deep gold in color with quite a vibrant orange shade to it. Possibly through the power of suggestion, the classic rye notes start to appear with cherries, brown sugar and that unique rye spice. Rather sweet and full bodied on the palate but retaining a smooth, refined texture. A thimble of coffee and nuts. Dried orange, spice and honey.
