As the officially recognized site of the first recorded distillation of Scotch Whisky in 1494, which appears in the Exchequer Roll of the same year, Lindores is again taking its place in history with its Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Over 500 years after Brother John Cor, a Lindores monk, was commissioned by King James IV to turn 8 bolls of malt into Aqua Vitae, Lindores are delighted to re-open the history book. Although Lindores Abbey has been in the McKenzie Smith family ownership for over 100 years it was 2001 when two unrelated incidents planted the germ of an idea in the mind of a young Drew McKenzie Smith. 2016 saw building on the new distillery commence and in 2017 the Visitor Centre opened and the first distillation took place. In 2021 the first scotch whisky went on sale.
Limited Edition bottlings from Lindores Abbey Distillery. This release has been in the background for over eight years, before we even had whisky ready to sell. In 2016, Drew, Helen and Poppy travelled to Thiron-Gardais, a small town in France, with a keenness to learn about the birthplace of the monks who founded Lindores Abbey.
This whisky features a contribution from award-winning spirit that was matured in casks handcrafted using wood sourced from Thiron-Gardais. Alongside specially selected Rejuvenated Red Wine Barriques and Bourbon casks, this whisky is exceptional on the nose and palate, providing an immersive journey through time with each sip, decanting history with every dram.
