Oxer Bastegieta is a very talented Basque wine grower and oenologist and the distinguishing mark on his wines is the attachment to the land, the use of typical varieties, freshness and elegance. Oxer Bastegieta has pinned his hopes primarily on Laguardia as the centre of a new approach to Rioja wines, without leaving behind his roots in the world of the Txakoli appellation of his origin in the historical territory of Vizcaya, included in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country. Oxer invests each cent earned in buying old plots. Artillero is one of these beauties: 98 years old, located in Elvillar (La Rioja Alavesa) at 600 metres altitude.
Loretxoa means little flower and is a reference to a song of Benito Lertxundi, an acclaimed Basque singer-songwriter.
Wine is a result of using minimum sulphites in combination with indigenous yeast. This creates an environment for the flor to flourish. It’s an expression of a flor-aged wine without losing the typical region's character. On the nose Marko Loretxoa shows aromas of citrus fruit, almonds and herbs. It also displays a marked yeasty character. The palate is characterized by a lively acidity and the finish of the wine is very well structured and has a salty touch.
