Micaela Palo Cortado

Bodegas Barón was founded by Manuel Barón Fernández in 1895 who acquired some old soleras. Manuel Barón’s wife had a much older family history in sherry though, so we could say Barón’s history goes back almost 400 years already. Today, ten generations later, the company is owned by Jose Rodriguez Jiménez. It is located in the barrio alto of Sanlúcar, where they store nearly 10.000 barrels of wine. 

Palo Cortado is a rare and marvelous wine that combines the delicate nose of Amontillado with the structured mouthfeel of Oloroso. As a meditation wine, it must be enjoyed slowly to experience the most mysterious nuances characteristic of sherry wine.

The nose opens up aromas of caramel with plenty of toasted hazelnuts and toffee. Also Turron, hints of honey and orange peels. There are some pungent coastal notes and hints of hay in the background, which are the result of the period of flor, but the oxidative side is slightly bigger. Just a hint of butter, as well as some oak char in the distance.
