Tenuta Il Poggione is an estate in the Montalcino DOCG appellation of Tuscany, particularly known for its rich, dense red wines balancing ripe fruit, savory elements and a classic structure. These are considered to be some of the greatest wines produced in Italy. The estate was founded in the late 19th Century by Lavinio Franceschi, a landowner on the hills above Florence, who bought land and began planting Sangiovese vineyards and introducing modern farming methods. Il Poggione today remains in the same family. Il Poggione was one of the first wineries to market the Brunello di Montalcino wine as early as the 1900’s, and one of the founding members of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium.
Brunello is the prince of Montalcino wines, produced exclusively from Sangiovese grapes picked by hand from the oldest vines in the farm. After a careful fermentation at controlled temperature, the wine is aged in French oak barrels.
Ruby red tending to garnet, very intense, persistent nose with red fruit notes. Warm, balanced flavor with velvet-smooth tannins. Long-lasting aroma.
