Primus

Marsovin is one of Malta’s best-established wineries, founded by Chevalier Anthony Cassar more than a century ago. What began as a small operation purchasing grapes from local farmers developed over successive generations into a modern winery with five private estates across Malta and Gozo. Today, the company is led by Jeremy Cassar, the founder’s great-grandson, and its historic cellars house more than 220 oak barrels used for ageing premium red wines.

Marsovin Primus is a limited-edition Maltese red wine made from a premium blend of Ġellewża and Shiraz grapes. The grapes are hand-picked at full ripeness in September and then left in their crates to sun-dry naturally at the winery, a traditional appassimento-style drying process that dehydrates the fruit and concentrates its sugars, acids and aromas before vinification. Primus is made in small quantities, with annual production of around 4,500 bottles.

A deeply concentrated ruby-purple colored wine displaying distinct tears with intense aromas of dried fruit and Amarena cherries marrying well with new oak barrel flavors of vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg leaving a very pleasant, lingering off dry finish.
