Atop a hill in the Comune di Greve in Chianti sits the Querceto estate, named after the nearby oak forest. Amidst the oaks and olive groves lie the vines that are the source of the superior wines of Castello di Querceto. These fields are known for the key role they played in Tuscany’s “new wave”, introducing the use of international varietals in what would come to be known as Super Tuscans.
This is a classic “super-Tuscan”. It is made on a single 4 hectare plot in the heart of Chianti Classico that is planted with 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in temperature-controlled vessels. It is aged in barrel for a minimum of 18 months, and then aged in bottle for 6 months before release.
Very deep ruby red, elegant and well structured. Scents of red fruits and typical notes of humus. A little balsamic note that fades into pine. In the mouth full bodied but velvety and balanced tannins.
