Schloss Johannisberg is a historic estate in the Rheingau region of Germany. It has exclusively grown Riesling grapes since 1720, and is thought to be the first estate in the world to have done so. The estate has a history of winegrowing that spans approximately 1200 years. In 1775, Schloss Johannisberg became the first to deliberately cultivate Spätlese grapes. Schloss Johannisberg sits on one of three quartzite hills southeast of the Taunus mountain range. The soils here are quartzite rich, which is well-suited to the Riesling that occupies the vineyards.

The 2023 Riesling Schloss Johannisberg Orangelack Kabinett is a new wine for the estate. The Riesling grapes were picked in the first week of harvest in the central part of the Johannisberg. As a point of difference to the Rotlack Kabinett, this one was pressed whole in a basket press and fermented in stainless steel, then matured for six months in wooden barrels on fine lees.

Summer blossom and soft tangerine peel are absolutely aromatic and enchanting on the nose. Pure peach framed by ripe lemon - soft, aromatic, smooth and so fresh. A very seductive wine, it is light and ethereal, leading to a long off-dry finish.
