Distilleria Sibona is one of the oldest and most respected grappa producers in Piedmont, Italy, founded over a century ago in the Roero area near Alba. The distillery is especially known for holding the historic distillation license No. 1 issued by the Italian authorities, a symbol of its prestige and long tradition. Sibona specializes in artisanal single-varietal grappas made from fresh pomace of top Piedmont grapes using careful steam distillation and long barrel aging.
Grappa di Barbera is a varietal grappa made from Barbera grape pomace from Piedmont, known for its richer fruit profile and softer acidity compared to Nebbiolo-based spirits. After steam distillation, it is rested in stainless steel with varying degrees of oak influence, resulting in a clear to lightly amber appearance and a focus on fruit-driven expression.
The nose is generous and vinous, with notes of ripe cherry, blackberry, plum, red berries, violet, and gentle spice, often supported by subtle vanilla or toasted wood. On the palate it is smooth, round, and medium-bodied, showing flavors of dark cherry, berry compote, almond, cocoa, and soft peppery spice with a warm, balanced structure.
