Distilleria Sibona is one of the oldest and most respected grappa producers in Piedmont, Italy, founded over a century ago in the Roero area near Alba. The distillery is especially known for holding the historic distillation license No. 1 issued by the Italian authorities, a symbol of its prestige and long tradition. Sibona specializes in artisanal single-varietal grappas made from fresh pomace of top Piedmont grapes using careful steam distillation and long barrel aging.
Grappa Riserva aged in Sauternes casks is one of the distillery’s most distinctive and elegant expressions. Produced mainly from Moscato and Brachetto pomace, the grappa is first matured for 2 years in classic oak barrels and then finished for another 2 years in French Sauternes wine casks, creating a rich dessert-wine influence rarely seen in grappa production.
In the glass it shows a deep amber color with an intensely aromatic bouquet of ripe apricot, peach, honey, acacia blossom, vanilla, raisin, caramel, and delicate oak spice. The palate is smooth, fresh, and velvety, with notes of candied fruit, dried tropical fruit, toasted almonds, cocoa, sweet oak, and floral honey that clearly reflect the Sauternes barrel aging. The finish is long, elegant, and warming without harshness.
