Ta’ Betta Wine Estates is a boutique family-run winery in Girgenti, on the outskirts of Siġġiewi, Malta, founded by Astrid and Juanito Camilleri in 2002. The estate extends over around four hectares of terraced land, where the first vines were planted in 2003 and the first wines were produced in 2006. Ta’ Betta focuses on small-scale, premium wines with strong ageing potential and a clear expression of its Maltese terroir. An interesting detail is that the estate was named after the founders’ daughter, Bettina, while its logo depicts a girl reaching toward a vine.
Inspired by Fra’ Jean Parisot de Valette, the 49th Grand Master of the Order of Malta who stood victorious after the Great Siege of Malta in 1565 and lay the foundation stone of the city of Valletta in 1566.
This oak-fermented Chardonnay is a tenacious and complex wine. Medium golden yellow in color. On the nose, aromas redolent of butter and smoke combine with toast, banana, ripe peach, roasted hazelnut, and a hint of sea salt. The creamy mouth-filling palate radiates finesse and elegance with a fine drive and a long finish.
