The 5 hectare Saint Emilion vineyard of Vieux Chateau Mazerat is planted to 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. You can divide the vineyard into two separate terroirs. Winemaking takes place in temperature-controlled wood vats. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels and the wine is aged in an average of 80% new, French oak barrels.
This cuvée is distinctive, the aromatic profile setting it apart from the other wines, with chalky minerality, backed with a stunning nose of expresso, blackberry, mulberry and kirsch. This wine is elegant and bold in structure, rich in feel, yet all that power is well balanced and honed. A concentrated blackberry character is propped up by firm tannins and lasting acidity, which gives ample aging potential.
