Luciano Sandrone is an Italian wine producer of Piedmont, particularly known for its red wines from the Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto grapes. The Sandrone estate was founded in 1978, a year after after Luciano Sandrone had bought a small parcel in Cannubi Boschis. Initially, wines were made in the garage of his parents' house. A trip to Vinitaly in 1982 allowed Luciano to sell all of his 1978 Barolo to a US distributor, providing the starting point for a long, slow period of growth.
Barolo Le Vigne represents interpretation of the tradition of the Langhe and Barolo: that of the ancient and skillful art of blending Nebbiolo from several vineyards. Luciano Sandrone has taken up this historical custom working only with indigenous yeasts and keeping the grapes separate until the final assembly and blending, instead of mixing them during the fermentation phase.
A wine of exceptional measure, with rich and extremely persistent volume and presence. The nose has an impressive block of fleshy black fruit, and the sense of darkness is more apparent in the nose than the color. The wine shows remarkable initial smoothness, good balance and ripe sweetness of the tannin. In the mouth the fruit is soft plum with notes of spices and menthol.
