Carúpano rum traces its roots to Hacienda Altamira (est. 1762) and was formally established as Destilería Carúpano in 1954 by the Morrison family; it is produced in eastern Venezuela under tropical ageing conditions, where high heat and humidity accelerate maturation and intensify interaction with ex-bourbon American oak casks. Carúpano is known for not adding sugar or sweeteners after distillation, keeping its profile aligned with traditional Venezuelan rum standards; it also follows local regulations requiring a minimum of two years’ ageing and prohibiting the topping up of barrels, which helps concentrate flavor over time.
