Château Les Trois Croix is a well-regarded wine estate in the Fronsac appellation of Bordeaux, just west of Libourne and Pomerol. For many years, the property was associated with celebrated winemaker, the late Patrick Léon. Today, the estate is run by his son, Bertrand. Les Trois Croix translates to "The Three Crosses" which is inscribed on a historic stone tower on the property (the estate is thought to date back to 1712). The vineyard is mostly planted to Merlot with around 20 percent Cabernet Franc – the oldest vines of which were planted in the 1940s.
The wine is a deep, dark black-ruby color. Rich, ripe, dark black-plum aromas are overlaid by chocolate notes on an intense nose. The palate is smooth, rich and chocolate-y. Nicely balanced tannins have both suppleness and grip. Rich dark, black plum fruit sits behind the structure. The acidity gives lively freshness and there is balanced alcohol. The finish is long and harmonious with a good grip. Smoothness and a mouth-watering tension at the end.
