The Johnnie Walker Blue Label – Gerald Scarfe Edition is one of the earliest and most celebrated artistic collaborations in the history of Blue Label, bringing together Johnnie Walker and legendary British illustrator Gerald Scarfe. Released in 2009 as a travel retail exclusive, the edition was first launched in Singapore and features Scarfe's unmistakable reinterpretation of the iconic Striding Man, transforming one of the world's most recognisable brand symbols into a dynamic work of contemporary art.
Rather than altering the whisky itself, the release celebrates creativity through its distinctive presentation. Scarfe's expressive illustration is screen-printed directly onto the bottle and echoed on the elegant deep-blue presentation box, where his energetic drawing captures the movement and character that have defined the Striding Man for more than a century. Famous for his work with The Sunday Times, The New Yorker, and the artwork for Pink Floyd's The Wall, Gerald Scarfe brought a bold artistic identity to Blue Label while remaining true to the brand's heritage.
Inside is the classic Johnnie Walker Blue Label, crafted from only one in every 10,000 casks selected from the company's exceptional reserves, including rare whiskies from long-closed "ghost" distilleries. The result is the signature Blue Label style, offering remarkable depth with notes of honey, dried fruit, rich spice, dark chocolate and gentle smoke. Today, the Gerald Scarfe Edition is regarded as one of the defining early designer releases that paved the way for many of the artistic Blue Label collaborations that followed.
