Luciano Sandrone is an Italian wine producer of Piedmont, particularly known for its red wines from the Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto grapes. The Sandrone estate was founded in 1978, a year after after Luciano Sandrone had bought a small parcel in Cannubi Boschis. Initially, wines were made in the garage of his parents' house. A trip to Vinitaly in 1982 allowed Luciano to sell all of his 1978 Barolo to a US distributor, providing the starting point for a long, slow period of growth.
Valmaggiore hill is one of the best historic examples of origin and quality. Already in the nineteenth century, the Nebbiolo grapes grown in this vineyard were so highly regarded that they dictated the price for the entire territory.
Deep and complex. The fragrant aroma recalls the classic notes of wild strawberry and raspberry and, most unusually, also of pomegranate and iris. Then more evolved fruit scents develop: red fruit jam and dried apricot. Finally, the minerality and hints of spice come forward, with cinnamon and vanilla. All surrounded by decisive ethereal hints, but in perfect harmony with the wine's complexity.
